Fred Weaver
Five Digit Land
Apocalypse the Apocalypse

Although Five Digit Land was not my cup of tea, it is a solid album, and well produced. It would however make a great listen for anyone into songs loaded with coffee house-esqe ambient guitar effects. The use of a 12 string guitar for many of the song lends strength and fullness to the sound. I’m going to call it power alternative, for lack of a better term.

Lyrically I found it fresh and insightful. There is one song (12 minutes long) about returning to his home town after 30 years to murder his high school sweetheart. Now before you assume what I did, (He’s going to cause the next columbine at his reunion.) you need to listen to it. It has a very Violent Femmes feel to it, and it sticks in your head like grandmas oatmeal sticks to your ribs. (Only slightly less comforting.)

Fred Weavers Five Digit Land was recorded at his brain child, Apocalypse the Apocalypse studio where he has recorded albums for hundreds of artists over the past 15 years. A followup album has walready be recorded and is set to be released this fall in conjunction with Freds next tour. (I would like to sign up to get one of those.)
