The Sound of Animals Fighting
We Must Become the Change We Want to See
Equal Vision Records

Comprised of members of RX Bandits, Days Away, Finch, Circa Survive, and Chiodos, The Sound of Animals Fighting has made a lot of noise in the underground over the last few years – particularly with their sophomore album Lover the Lord Has Left us which was released by Equal Vision Records. The We Must Become the Change We Want to See (a take on the famous Ghandi quote) DVD contains the one and only show the band has performed together and was released simultaneously with an expanded edition of the band’s out of print debut Tiger & the Duke.

It must have been quite the scheduling nightmare to get all these band members in one place and well rehearsed for a series of shows this intricate. Filmed last summer at The House of Blues in Anaheim, CA the concert features a full stage show compromised of the band as well as a host of dancers and painters. It’s quite the spectacle given the small-ish shows that the members offer in their main bands. This show starts out a bit slow with the darkness and spoken word that seemingly goes on forever but once it decides to move it explodes. Nearly all of Tiger & the Duke is included here as is a lot of Lover the Lord has Left us. All of Tiger & the Duke is performed together with the exception of “Act 4: You Don’t Need a Witness,” which concludes the show brilliantly.

This is an EXCELLENT live show. Even the material I don’t like manages to at least keep my attention here. The band is tremendously solid given the circumstance and you’d think they had been performing together for years if you didn’t know better. If you want to like this band and are looking for something to win over your affections then this is it. We Must Become the Change We Want to See is a must have for concert DVD fans!
