The insanely powerful Whitechapel return with their sophomore release for Metal Blade Records, A New Era of Corruption. Full of Death Metal mayhem, this album firmly cements the band’s status as one of Metal’s finest and far more than the Flavor-of-the-Moment band some would lead you to believe they are.
The album kicks off in grand style with the punishing duo of “Devolver” and “Breeding Violence.” The band literally lays waste to your stereo with this two songs before giving you false hope for a slab of Heavy Metal (ala their debut) that turns quickly into the racing “The Darkest Day of Man,” which features the lowest growl I have heard since Chris Barnes was in his prime. “Reprogrammed,” “Unnerving,” and “Murder Sermon” are a little more dynamic and bring some depth to the album that This is Exile lacked.
Really, every song here is a “hit” if you like your music hard-hitting and crushingly powerful. Whitechapel knock it out of the park on this one and may be the first Extreme Metal band to legitimately be able to carry the flag and sell records like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, and Obituary have. Don't miss the boat on these guys if you like it heavy.
Bottom Line: Say what you will about Knoxville’s Whitechapel but the cold, hard fact is that a band this special hasn’t come along since Cannibal Corpse.
Key Tracks: “Devolver," “Murder Sermon”
