Newcomers to the indie-rock genre, Moros Eros, started
their career in 2006 and became noticed through a
self-produced three-song demo. The Alternative Press
reviewed the demo and the band earned itself a title
of being “One of the Best Unsigned Bands To
Watch” by the magazine. Moros Eros has played
shows with bands like Sparta, The Forecast, Young
Love, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, and now the band has
released their first major record on the Victory label
titled “Jealous Me Was Killed By Curiosity”.
At first when I saw this band I was thinking that
they were a hardcore group because they’re on
Victory Records. My cousin Mark said that they were
an indie-rock group and that kind of turned me against
the band especially since I wasn’t fully knowledgeable
on the genre itself. When I put the album in I thought
this really isn’t that bad especially because
of what it reminded me of.
The album starts with “Quit, You’re
Being Thoughtless” and you hear indie-rock but
with a classic feel to it. As much of a hardcore and
metal fan I am, I like classic rock because truthfully,
that’s where every type of modern rock got its
head start. Anyway, the classic feel I’m associating
relates to Jimmy Hendrix because some of the guitar
riffs have that 60’s feel throughout the album
and it was actually a neat thing. When the album moved
further along to songs like “Choices”
and “Wake and Wait” some of the beats
were played in a John Bonham and Keith Moon style
and really, it made the album more enticing to listen
to.
Overall, Moros Eros’ release “Jealous
Me Was Killed By Curiosity” is great for any
fan of the genre and bands like The Flaming Lips and
The White Stripes. It’s also good to listen
to when you don’t want to burn yourself out
on what you listen to the most. I wouldn’t be
surprised if Moros Eros got on the Vans Warped Tour
within the next year or so because they’d fit
right in.
