Over the past two decades, Sweden has been distinguished
for producing many well-known bands in the death metal
genre such as The Haunted and In Flames. In the more
recent years, Sweden still hasn’t lost its touch
because a quintet by the name of Scarpoint has added
on to the Swedish death metal expectation with their
new album “The Silence We Deserve”.
The Silence We Deserve from the start was enticing
to listen to because I seen the name of Daniel Bergstrand
which is the guy who produced bands like Meshuggah
and In Flames and truly I was thinking “man
if these guys got Bergstrand’s attention then
they have to be worth lending an ear to” and
once I listened to The Silence We Deserve, I was really
impressed with it.
The album opens in a strange way with the track
titled “XxX” and basically, it’s
just a collaboration of static and unclear background
conversation but serves as an awesome opening to the
first song “Disorder” and truly everything
from there on just improves. Each of the songs were
filled with driving guitars, vocals, beats, and some
pretty awesome turns like break downs and driving
rhythms. Also, there were some fast rhythms in the
mix which were pretty wicked especially when they
lead to an instrumental sequence. Every song was pretty
unique, especially because of some of the track lengths.
Some songs on the album were a little over three minutes
and that’s something you’d least expect
from a death metal band when on average most death
metal tracks would clock around five to six minutes.
But none the less, the album did have some moderate
length songs and made a tasteful pattern with the
combination of the shorter songs and truly, it made
the album more gripping.
In the end, Scarpoint’s new release is great
for any fan of the death metal genre. The Silence
We Deserve should really appeal to fans of In Flames,
The Haunted, and Arch Enemy. Most of the songs on
the album have their unique twists and turns that’ll
really keep you in tune. If you’re a death metal
fan, then I highly recommend this one because it’ll
have a lot in store for you.
Key Tracks: I really enjoyed the whole album!
