Suicide Silence
The Cleansing

In 2004, Suicide Silence made its appearance in Riverside, CA with a sound that incorporates death and black metal. This is a sound you could compare to that of Napalm Death or black metal bands such as Satyricon. Now the band has released their newest installment, The Cleansing, which is “cleaning” a spot on the tables of metal by combing grindcore and death metal with black metal styled vocals giving the band a sound of their own.

The Cleansing begins with the intro titled “Revelations” and stays on course. The following songs are consistently heavy with fast beats, death metal breakdowns, and speedy guitar riffs. The vocals in my opinion were the most impressive because lead singer Mitch Lucker performs with his black metal screams and he also adds growling death metal vocals to the mix. Vocally, and also instrumentally, it changed the songs’ patterns through coordination of the guitars and vocals meaning the black metal portions of each track involved the shrieking vocals and fast riffs. The death metal portions were mixed in with the thrashy rapid breakdowns and growling vocals making a pretty interesting mix.

Overall, Suicide Silence’s new release is a great addition to any fan of Napalm Death or Satyricon because of the band’s combination of styles. Each song on the album has a different theme while keeping the same death/black metal feeling. So if you want to listen to something that will make your ears, eyes, and nose bleed all at once, just sign here and prepare to be “cleansed”.
