Thousands of European music publications describe
MEGAHERZ as one of the most important representatives
of German modern rock music. It is now time for the
US to take heed of their talents. The band now steadied
by new front man Mathias Elsholz have begun a new
musical era --one which U.S. publications will help
to define.
The album “5” was recorded in the Lungaard-Studios
in Denmark. The music is defined to fall somewhere
between industrial, dark rock, electronica, and fat
grooves. The album which consists of thirteen tracks
intentionally sways away from labels such as German
tough metal and instead leans hard on Americanized
flavors. A good example of this style is the catchy
track “Ja Genau” while it intros in a
dark industrial style it ends up offering clean alternative
hep laced vocals and beats with a hard metal flare.
“Wann Wirst Du Genn?” has an emotional
ballad appeal, yet offers incredibly lower volume
guitar centers and solos, this song is arranged perfectly
and is extremely moving.
So has this band crossed over? Is Megaherz intentionally
distancing itself from categories that have meant
huge profitability to them? Is this album gripping
or forgetful? It is obviously the intent of the artists
to force fans into these questions and debates. I
find the music to be quite gripping.
The album gets better with continued play and definitely
hooks nicely. The electronic background is perfectly
executed and the front man fits. This is a must listen
for the modernized catalogue.
