My wife and I recently watched that move that is
supposedly a sequel to The Graduate, I think it was
called “Rumor Has It”. I keep thinking
about that movie in regards to this album, and thus
the whole time I was listening to it I was looking
for the awkward sister who did not fit in at all…
and I couldn’t find it. Much like how the grandmother,
mother and daughter in Rumor Has It all couldn’t
resist the charms of the same man, The Graduate can’t
seem to resist marching down the same post-emo path
that has been tread hundreds of times before. And
yet, like a younger lover these guys bring excitement
to the game that has not been seen in a while.
There’s nothing new under the sun, and “Anhedonia”
does nothing to dispel that myth. But those of you
who have wondered what would have happened if Further
Seems Forever and A New Found Glory had created a
child you have your answer. Lots of shimmering chimy
guitars a la FSF mixed with the fun post-punk exuberance
of NFG (who by the way have never created a record
since their self-titled record – hey its my
alternate reality). This record goes back and forth
between aggressive songs with kick and beautiful post-rock.
Also, this record is rewarding as things that you
missed before come up and hit you in the face with
each new listen.
Take the time to get to know this graduate as The
Graduate should soon be spinning on the airwaves in
your town.
Key Tracks: Bet It All, Anhedonia & Sit &
