Forever Burns (Single)

Release date:  October 31, 2015

Halloween is the time when ghosts and ghouls are unleashed to walk the earth.  Werewolves, vampires, and horror themed bands all rise from their graves to stalk the living.  This Halloween Them releases the first single from their upcoming concept album Sweet Hollow which is due to hit the shelves in January.  I know you must be dying to know who are the masterminds between this mysterious creature called Them.  Pardon the unintended twist of the English language, but Them are a group of seasoned metal pros, including bassist Mike LePond (Symphony X), drummer Kevin Talley (Suffocation), guitarists Markus Ullrich (Lanfear) and Markus Johansson (Sylencer), keyboardist Richie Seibel (Lanfear), and vocalist Troy Norr ("KK Fossor") of Cold Steel.  If you have more than a passing interest in metal I’m sure you’re already intrigued by Them.

“Forever Burns” is obviously part of a storyline, and describes an immolation of the archaic witch burning sort, and a father caught between his love for his daughter and fear of the evil that lurks the area that serves as the setting for this grisly scene.  Vocally, “Forever Burns” is a tribute to King Diamond, as Norr alternates between a piercing falsetto and gruff melody in a style often reminiscent of the godfather of horror metal.  In other passages, he utilizes a smooth, melodic tone that could grace the most majestic power metal anthems to carry the song forward, showing his versatility.  Dueling guitars move fluidly from fast, classic death metal style riffing to eerie harmonies, showing a flair for duel lead guitar in a way that is rarely heard outside of Judas Priest.  The real surprise in this track is the amazing rhythm section, particularly LePond, whose lightning fast bass riffs are astounding.  To say this is a well-rounded band is an extreme understatement.

Both musically and lyrically “Forever Burns” is an impressive collaboration that could only be the result of experienced musical heavies.  I am waiting impatiently for Them to release Sweet Hollow so I can follow the rest of the tale spun in this single.  2016 looks to be a strong year for metal as Them prepare to open the year with a creepy howl and a threatening thunder.
