X- No Absolutes

Release Date: February 5, 2016

The almighty Prong returns with X- No Absolutes! Tommy Victor & co. have been on a hot streak these last few years and X  “takes it to 11,” cementing them as one of the most important resurrections of the 00’s.

“Do Nothing” is the biggest surprise here in my opinion. While it’s not quite a ballad, it is a mid-tempo rocker with a big sing-along hook. It’s got an inspiring sound that proves that Victor is always ready for a new challenge and that Prong is not interested in resting on their laurels. Plus, it’s a friggin’ great song! “Ultimate Authority” and “Sense of Ease” are guitar chugging rockers that make me want to start a circle pit. On the latter, Victor barks over top of the racing drums and chaotic guitars, giving it an almost NYC hardcore feel. “With Dignity” is another highlight, bringing that more melodic sound back into the mix with some mild electronic twinges and a hook that you just can’t shake. Realistically, though, every single song on X is insanely good. If you have ever enjoyed a Prong album, you will find a lot to love here.

You know, when Tommy Victor resurrected Prong I was excited but also pretty apprehensive. And it, arguably, took them a couple of albums to get back into their groove. The fact is, Prong are better than they have ever been. X-No Absolutes could very well be their best work. Victor is at the top of his game right now and if you haven’t taken notice yet then you need to right away. This will certainly end up as one of 2016’s best heavy albums.
