Don’t turn your back on me now, implores the
high energy opening track of Yellowcard’s most
recent release, Paper Walls. That is exactly my advice
for fans of the innovative pop punk outfit. With thirteen
fresh tracks for your listening pleasure Paper Walls
is a sound investment of time.
The opening track, entitled The Takedown, explodes
into the stereo with a combination of fast paced beats
and incredibly catchy riffs. As I listened to each
progressive track I discovered that the pop sensibility
was evident in every single track, from the upbeat
Cut Me Mick, to the Keeper, to the emotional and heart
felt Light Up The Sky. The maturity incorporated into
each and every single track is very impressive.
Also noteworthy is the seemless melding of all the
sonic factors. The piercing violin blends flawlessly
with the rhythmic, solid guitars, and the vocals perfectly
give a face to the underlying thoughts and feelings
that shape each song.
The dynamic rockers hit the scene loud and proud
with a debut release that included such colossial
hits as Ocean Avenue and Way Away. With such resounding
freshman success many were skeptical of the longevity
of the band. Lights and Sounds, the bands sophmore
release, did not seem to make nearly the impact that
the band was hoping. However, Paper Walls is a pure
unaldulterated musical experience. The soaring violin
riffs in combination with the high energy punk inspired
beats should please any true fans as well as anyone
who simply appreciates good, well performed music.
